Pioneers in Pure Vermont Maple Syrup since 1876
2013 finds the 7th generation of Howrigans dairy farming and producing pure Vermont maple syrup in Fairfield, Vermont. [Patrick, Patrick, William, William E, Harold Sr, Harold Jr, Harold III]. The younger Patrick emigrated from Ireland by way of Canada and brought his parents and siblings to purchase their first farm in Fairfield Vermont in 1849.
We have been pioneers in producing pure Vermont maple syrup in these hills of Fairfield since 1876. It is an all natural product. Nothing is added. No preservatives. Just pure Vermont maple syrup. We believe our product is the best in the world; many of our customers agree and return year after year.
We consistently win awards and receive accolades at the Vermont Maple Festival, the Vermont Farm Show, the Franklin County Field Days and other venues.

Harold Sr was a charter member and lifelong director of the Franklin County Maple Cooperative; Mike and Harold Jr are now directors. We have been a member of the Vermont Maple Producers since its inception.
Martin Marietta Corporation featured Harold Sr in their 1977 advertising campaign in Newsweek about people in America who did their jobs in an excellent way:
Sure Harold Howrigan likes maple sugaring. The work is too hard to do it for any other reason. One bucket of maple sap weighs 25 pounds, and you have to wade through waist-deep snow to get the bucket and bring it back down to the tub on the sled.
And the time of year when the sap runs best is the time of year when the weather is worst. And sometimes the sap doesn’t run. And other times it overflows the bucket. And there’s not a lot of money in it.
But Harold Howrigan of Fairfield, Vermont wouldn’t give it up for anything. He has his share of farm show awards for the best maple syrup in Vermont.
“It’s hard to say why I keep going. But when you’re way back up in the woods, and the syrup smell drifts on up from the sugaring house, I really like it. It can keep you going on a stormy day.”
